And counting. Hard to believe I'm still here, having been a contender for the Darwin Award a few times. Healthy too.

Lady Bird

Lady Bird Johnson died yesterday. She had a long life and was a humanizing influence to old LBJ. He was a bit of a monster as all good presidents are. I'm going to read Robert A. Caro's The Years of Lyndon Johnson again. He only goes as far as the end of the senate years but it's an excellent read and Mr. Caro is a master of the written English language.

Cat, please don't lick me in the eye.

I hear this snuffling noise as I try to retain my diminishing sense of unconsciousness and then open one eye. In my field of view is this large pink nose, and I think, "Cat, please don't lick me in the eye." She's been around over ten years and she hasn't done it yet. Still, there's a first time for everything.

A Flag from 2001

This flag was found lying in the parking lot at the Rust Library in Leesburg, Virginia. It was about a month after September of 2001. It was flown from someone's car until it got worn and tattered and then was left on the ground. Disposed of. So they thought. 9-11 is still pretty raw to me. I knew people who lost people. So this is my souvenir of that time.
